A circular learning environment for a growing community

MFA Park Vredenburgh in Waddinxveen brings education, childcare, and healthcare together in one multifunctional building designed to grow with the neighbourhood.

As part of the final development phase of Park Triangel, the project combines social impact, long-term usability, and material responsibility. The building is set to become a daily anchor for local life.

Construction started in 2025, marked symbolically by the pupils of the primary school themselves. The building is scheduled for completion ahead of the 2026 to 2027 school year, reinforcing the municipality’s ambition to invest in future-ready public infrastructure.

From waste to value in public architecture

For the facade of the building, the Municipality of Waddinxveen made a progressive material choice by specifying 2Good2Waste WasteBasedBricks.

This product is made by reclaiming and reprocessing all residual clay and return materials from the factory itself. Instead of discarding this waste stream, it is blended into a new brick with a mixed brown appearance that visibly tells its circular story.

At the time of specification, 2Good2Waste was the most affordable option within a then premium-priced sustainable brick range (now more affordable, due to scaling up). Choosing this material reflects a clear commitment to circularity without compromising budget, performance, or aesthetics. It demonstrates how public projects can lead by example, proving that circular materials are not only experimental statements but viable, scalable solutions for everyday architecture.

A responsible choice for the next generation

By integrating waste-based bricks into a building dedicated to learning and care, multi-functional project Park Vredenburgh aligns material choices with the values it aims to pass on to future generations.

The project shows how circular design can be quietly embedded into the built environment, not as a showcase, but as a normalised, trusted approach to construction.

When the first lessons begin in the 2026 to 2027 school year, the building will stand as a tangible example of how municipalities can combine affordability, durability, and responsibility in public architecture.
