August 7, 2021 Bauhandwerk Magazine - Creative Solutions for Recycling Bricks Bauhandwerk Magazine presents recycled bricks that can be installed without mortar, glass-ceramic panes made from shards for interior construction and fully recyclable ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite System). Building materials are becoming increasingly scarce on German construction sites. This is due to diminishing raw materials, capacities and sales abroad. Building material is available in the form of waste and existing buildings. Around 400 million tons of waste are generated in Germany every year. More than half of it is rubble. Since the construction work continues at a high level despite the shortage of building materials, a double problem arises: On the one hand, many construction sites are idle due to the lack of building materials and on the other hand, landfills are reaching their capacity limits. Disposal will become even more difficult in the future, since around half of the nationwide just over 1000 landfills will have reached the end of their service life in 2025. So there is no getting around recycling, urban mining and cradle-to-cradle approaches.
