While celebrating its 95th birthday in 2018, 4th generation family company LC Packaging started the construction of its new, sustainable and state-of-the-art headquarters and warehouse at Logistiekpark A12 in Waddinxveen, The Netherlands.
Quadrant4 realised the interior design for the new headquarters with a production and storage facility. The distribution centre is located along the A12 highway and therefore required a modern appearance, in addition to being recognizable.
Innovative measures have been taken to minimise CO2 emissions and the consumption of energy and water during the construction phase. LC Packaging clearly expressed its wish for a sustainable building with a BREEAM Outstanding **** certificate, which was obtained at the completion of the project in 2020.
Along with the strong focus on sustainability, the designers of Quadrant4 created a concept that suited the company’s current-day needs.
Our 2Good2Waste product comes in beautiful nuances of light and slighter darker bricks. By coincidence, the colour range of the stones from our limited edition productions resembled the facade of previous offices of LC Packaging.
In the early years of LC Packaging, the company was housed in a characteristic warehouse in Amsterdam. For the new interior, it was CEO Lucas Lammers’ dream to bring some of those elements back, as a homage to his forefathers that founded the company.
At FRONT®, we’re always looking for ways to optimise our production process and minimise our environmental impact. We produce many different products each year and there is always some transition in the recipe that we cannot use for a specific project.
In order to save unused material from ending up in the landfill, we’ve collected all ‘leftovers’ and developed a special limited edition product, which we call 2Good2Waste.
Because it cannot be remade, this product is truly unique – while maintaining the same high quality as our regular range of WasteBasedBricks®.
For this project, we cut the 2Good2Waste into brick slips of both 15mm and 25mm thickness. Through the brick bond that Quadrant4 developed, in which the brick slips are applied without mortar and in a vertical way, the interior walls hint towards a typical Amsterdam canal house facade.
It’s a wonderful tribute to the early days of the company – but with a fresh and modern look and feel.
The history of LC Packaging has been brought back in a modern relief. The brick strips of StoneCycling are in line with the sustainable goals of LC Packaging’s new construction.
We chose StoneCycling’s WasteBasedBricks as interior wall cladding because it connects past, present and future and it’s made in a modern and sustainable way.
A nuance of reds and browns, made from 100% recycled waste that is coming from the factory's own production.
