Impressionist Green Wall Cladding at Private House in The Netherlands

Wasabi as a Work of Art

Over the past few years, we’ve created various samples of Wasabi but never produced this product on a larger scale.

Once we started doing this, we found out that the Wasabi is actually a collection of various tones of green, resulting in almost an impressionist-like painting when used as wall cladding.

This year, we had the opportunity to use Wasabi as interior wall cladding for a private house in the Netherlands.

Designer Bricks

The owners of the residence in Venlo have been following FRONT® (formerly StoneCycling) for a long time. When they decided to move to a new house, they found it important and exciting to support the work of FRONT®.

They are lovers of design and art and the Wasabi compliments this perfectly. The variation of green tones can almost be seen as a design object in and of itself.

Creating WasteBasedSlips

For this project, we produced the Wasabi not as a full brick, but immediately as a WasteBasedSlip. This is a challenge because it means the machinery in production has to be used in a totally different way.

We chose this solution because we wanted to investigate if we could improve the efficiency and sustainability of producing the product.

By not producing full bricks that then need to be cut into slips, but producing the brick slips straight away means that we can use the material in a more optimal way, reducing cutting loss.

Being the first project to install the Wasabi WasteBasedSlips was an adventure for us because at that time we did not have any reference projects.

We’re now confident that with these results the owners set a series of future Wasabi projects in motion.
