A central meeting place encouraging collaboration to make The Netherlands better. This was the starting point for the design of APPM’s new headquarters, which was created in partnership with Firm architects.
The renovation has now been completed and the new space is in use.
APPM organizes the planning, development, and restructuring of urban and rural areas in The Netherlands. They are engaged in innovation and growth in a constantly changing world, but after 20 years, their headquarters no longer reflect their needs and core values.
As a team that works all over the country, meeting each other, partners and clients in an inspiring environment was the starting point for the design process. Employees were closely involved in formulating the requirements for this project.
Beyond planning the practical necessities, Firm Architects translated the wishes of APPM into a design that invites storytelling and continues to surprise.
Another key element to the design wishes of APPM was sustainability – realized authentically and modestly.
Inspired by the continuous struggle between water, clay, and vegetation, characteristic of the Dutch soil, the design features a floor to symbolize water, from which a wall rises representing clay. This wall separates the large, open space. The vegetation is symbolized by cork blocks with various spaces within them. This creates small, open workspaces without disrupting the open-sight lines.
Made with FRONT® Mopé WasteBasedBricks, the walls enable 5460 kg of waste to be upcycled.
The design by FIRM Architects is an inspiration hub for meetings, in the APPM way: authentic, unique, and sustainable.
A light and lively terracotta-coloured brick. Mopé makes your project look warm and bright.
