The highly anticipated Plus Ultra III, a future-proof building situated on the Wageningen Campus, provides 7,600 square metres of space for laboratories, pilot plants, and offices.
Designed with sustainability at its core, the building has been constructed almost entirely from Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), with a facade made from 100% recycled PVC panels by FRONT partner Pretty Plastic.

Under Construction (Completion in 2026)
Due to the distance to a Natura 2000 area, the construction was chosen to be made entirely of wood. A standout feature of Plus Ultra III is its facade, which prominently incorporates Pretty Plastic’s ‘Basic Third‘ panels. Made from 100% recycled PVC, these panels perfectly align with the sustainability vision of the project and the overall goals of Wageningen Campus.
In collaboration with the architects at Proof of the Sum, the panels were specifically designed for this project, offering a simple installation process that complements the building’s wooden structure.
The facade system is fully demountable, meaning the entire structure, including the panels, can be easily disassembled and reused in the future. This design enhances the building’s commitment to a circular economy, ensuring that materials can be repurposed without waste.
Alongside the facade, Plus Ultra III also features solar panels, geothermal energy storage, and nature-inclusive elements, all contributing to the overarching mission of Wageningen University & Research: “To explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life.”
Plus Ultra III is a landmark of sustainable innovation and a key addition to the Wageningen Campus, which continues to attract researchers, students, and entrepreneurs from around the globe. The building design showcases its role as a hub for sustainable development and cutting-edge research.
